About Universal Salons
Universal Salons is an online Black hair salon directory and hairstyle guide. The site publishes over 5,000 articles and more than 20,000 hairstyle images from over 1,000 licensed professional salons across the United States. Readers browse styles by length, texture, color and technique, including locks, braids, twists, quick weaves, pixies and bobs, then find a preferred salon by state. Salons join through photoshoots and marketing placement.
Clyde "Chip" Foust, Jr. began in 1989 as a photo lab technician at Dudley Products, then shot for hair publications from 1992. He left Dudley Products in 1999 to create Universal Salons. The directory grew into what the site calls the premiere Black hair salon directory, drawing over 80,000 unique visitors monthly. Foust now also teaches cosmetologists to use search engines to build their client base.
