About Magnolia 23

Magnolia 23 serves scratch-made Southern food in Asheboro, North Carolina. The family-run kitchen builds its menu from recipes passed down through generations, drawn from the Richmond County towns of Ellerbe and Norman. Fried chicken is the best-known dish, alongside collard greens, candied yams, mac and cheese, chicken and dumplings, catfish, pintos and cornbread. Parade Magazine voted it the best place to eat in North Carolina, and Southern Living has featured it.

Don Simmons retired from Energizer in 2009 and began catering for small groups, then opened a catering hall. Later that year he was offered the chance to open his own restaurant, and Magnolia 23 opened in 2009. The Simmons family has owned and operated it for over ten years, cooking from recipes inspired by their mothers, Bert Simmons and Alma Williams.
