R&R — Rest and Relax — was founded in 2020 by Ruddy Perennes, a nail artist born in Gabon who has lived in North Carolina since 2013. She started it because she could not find the standard of service and product she wanted, and built it as a private one-on-one studio rather than an open floor: one client at a time, no rush, no short cuts. The sanitation practice is the part she is most explicit about — instruments cleaned in a hospital-grade autoclave and sealed in sterilisation envelopes until use, pedicure sinks without whirlpool jets because jets cannot be cleaned properly, a dual handwashing policy before and after every service, gloves throughout, disposable files, buffers, cuticle sticks and callus patches discarded after each client, and LED lamps only, never UV. Products are sourced from American, European and Korean makers including OPI, Gelish, Cuccio, Wave, The Gel Bottle and Chanel. Alongside the Bandford Way suite she runs a mobile service that travels to a client’s home, office, hotel, hospital or hospice across Apex, Cary, Durham, Garner, Wake Forest and surrounding towns — built for anyone who cannot easily get to a salon, whether that is a busy schedule, pregnancy, age, privacy or health.
