A trademark and business practice for founders, creators and small companies, working with clients nationwide from Durham. The core work is brand protection: knockout and comprehensive trademark searches with a written risk opinion before you file, federal USPTO registration with strategic class selection, and office action responses when an examining attorney refuses a mark. Copyright filings cover software code, website content, manuscripts, photography, graphic design and course materials. On the contracts side the firm drafts IP and software licensing, SaaS agreements and EULAs, and website compliance documents — the argument being that a generic template is a liability once real revenue is attached to it. The firm also handles LLC and corporation formation and governance documents, and runs a self-service legal template shop, a blog and a YouTube channel for people not yet ready to retain counsel. Office hours are Monday to Thursday 9am–5pm and Friday 9am–3:30pm. Note: the firm states on its own site that it is not accepting new clients at this time.
Littlejohn Law Offices PLLC is an African-American, woman-powered firm founded by Diane Littlejohn, who describes it as a law firm for creatives, entrepreneurs and innovators. She built the practice around a simple premise — the person who did the creative work should own it — and has taken that to clients across the country rather than just the Research Triangle, filing trademarks nationwide from a Durham office on South Miami Boulevard. Alongside the practice she has put a large amount of free material online, from a blog running since 2021 to a YouTube channel, and sells attorney-drafted templates for founders who cannot yet afford bespoke work.
