Tymus Beverly, PLLC is a boutique family law firm with offices in Raleigh (1330 St. Marys Street, Suite 140) and Durham (331 W. Main Street, Suite 308), practising almost exclusively in Wake and Durham Counties. Consultations are by appointment, offered in person or virtually. The practice covers the full range of family law: child custody, child support, spousal support and alimony, equitable distribution and property division, divorce including no-fault, prenuptial and separation agreements, domestic violence matters, and alienation of affection and criminal conversation claims — a North Carolina specialty where interfering with a marriage carries real consequences, and the firm both files and defends those cases. The firm’s stated approach is to meet the client where they are. As Attorney Beverly puts it, sometimes a client wants a no-drama resolution and needs trusted counsel to negotiate; sometimes they need a fighter in their corner. Attorney Tamla Tymus Beverly launched Tymus Beverly, PLLC in November 2021, after more than 25 years in law and a career with an unusually wide arc. She took her law degree at North Carolina Central University in 1996, having graduated from Norfolk State University in 1992, and built her first firm in Charlotte — nearly a decade of family law and criminal defence, over two thousand clients, a “Top 30 under 30” listing from Charlotte Magazine, and an appointment by the Chief District Court Judge of Mecklenburg County as lead attorney for the State in the child support courtroom. Then she left the practice of law entirely for something she had always wanted to do. Returning to her hometown of Washington, DC, she served as a Congressional Black Caucus Fellow and then spent nine years on Capitol Hill as a senior staff attorney for the House Committee on Homeland Security, eventually leading its Subcommittee for Oversight, Investigations and Management. In 2014 she came back to North Carolina, as she puts it, because the courtroom was calling her name — and has logged over a thousand hours trying family law cases since. She has taught at both NCCU School of Law and Campbell Law, and says it gives her pride to walk into a courtroom and see a former student in action. She founded the firm because she wanted to offer caring, empathetic, knowledgeable legal services from a holistic standpoint. She was voted Legal Elite by her peers in Business North Carolina in 2021, and practises today from Raleigh and Durham alongside intake coordinator Shawnette McCray.
