The Morton Law Offices, PLLC is a Raleigh family law practice led by Yasmin K. Morton, Esq. It handles the matters that arrive when a family is restructuring — divorce, child custody, child support, equitable distribution of property, alimony and domestic violence — rather than a broad general-civil docket. The firm’s stated philosophy is that the legal process is overwhelming, and that clients often feel unheard. Its answer is a hands-on approach: listen first, then work with the client to build a clearly defined plan for custody, support, property distribution or alimony, aimed at the best possible result for the family however that client defines it. As the firm puts it — times may get tough, but this is a phase you will get through, and they intend to be there for every step. Morton brings two designations few attorneys in the area hold together: Certified Parenting Coordinator and North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission Family Financial Mediator. She is licensed in North Carolina and Georgia and has represented clients in counties across the state. She practises with Meadow Azaz and Anlin Thachil. Yasmin K. Morton opened The Morton Law Offices, PLLC in 2010. She is a Raleigh native who came back to practise where she grew up, after Western Carolina University — honours, BSBA in Business Administration and Law, and an inaugural member of the Women’s Soccer Team — and Wake Forest University School of Law, where she edited the Intellectual Property Law Journal, taught legal research and writing, argued on the Frederick Douglass Moot Court Team and served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Honor Council. The firm has concentrated on family law throughout. Morton went on to become a Certified Parenting Coordinator and a North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission Family Financial Mediator — an unusual pairing locally, and one that lets the practice work toward resolution rather than only litigation. She is licensed in both North Carolina and Georgia. Her own divorce is part of why the practice works the way it does. She is open about it, and describes it as what allows her to connect with clients in a way few attorneys can: alongside the legal implications, she talks about the real-life consequences, and lets clients decide with both in front of them. Outside the office she sits on the Board of Directors of Passage Home, Inc., which works to break the cycle of poverty and create generational self-sufficiency for Wake County families, and gives a great deal of time to Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated — Immediate Past President of the local chapter, a Diamond Life Member, and since 2022 Chair of the sorority’s International Grievance Committee. She was Raleigh Zeta’s Woman of the Year in 2023 and an NCNW-CAS Social Justice Advocate Honoree in 2022. The team now includes Meadow Azaz and Anlin Thachil.
