About Taste Of West Africa
Taste Of West Africa (TOWA) is a West African restaurant and lounge in the heart of downtown Fayetteville, NC, at 116 Person Street, run under the name Awo's Authentic Cuisines. The restaurant brings the flavors and spices of Ghana to the table with scratch-made soups and fufu or rice prepared fresh in MaMa Bridget's kitchen, alongside savory stewed and fried entrees paired with seasoned Jollof or Waakye rice. TOWA also offers a dedicated vegan menu with veggie-based dishes for health-conscious diners, and a dessert menu that includes a mango-infused specialty. The restaurant's Lounge & Bar serves refreshing tropical cocktails, imported wines and beers, set against an atmosphere of rhythmic African and Afro-inspired music, authentically crafted artwork, and tribal masks meant to evoke hospitality from the motherland. TOWA accommodates reservations for parties of five or more for large groups, meetings, or special occasions, and applies an 18% service charge to those reservations. The restaurant also rents its space for private events and meetings based on date, duration, and purpose, subject to owner approval. Beyond dining, TOWA runs a community initiative called TOWA Vibez CommUNITY+, which celebrates African arts and heritage through cultural arts workshops, performances and showcases, cultural arts festivals, and other community activities held throughout the year.
