He has said, "I grew up cooking with my grandmother, Sally (affectionately called Mum) and I must say I learned a lot from her." That early education, combined with years spent working in the restaurant industry, gave him both the recipes and the professional experience to eventually launch his own kitchen in Raleigh, bringing his grandmother's cooking to a new generation of diners far from home.
