About Das Ethiopian Cuisine

A white-tablecloth Ethiopian restaurant in Georgetown serving dishes such as doro wat with hard-boiled egg, lamb tibs in Ethiopian spiced butter, shrimp tibs, beef zilzil tibs, and combination meat and vegetarian samplers that include chicken doro wat, beef kay wat, beef alicha and beef cubes. Vegetarian diners get generous portions of the full range of veggie entrees on a shared platter. Traditional spices like berbere anchor the cooking, and the dining room pairs fine-dining service with Ethiopian hospitality. Reservations, online ordering, and a full menu are available.

Das means "tent" in Amharic, a reference to a place where people gather. Owner Sileshi Alifom was born in Addis Ababa and moved to the United States in the 1970s; after a long career in senior hotel management with Marriott, he opened Das in 2011 with his wife, Elizabeth Wossen. The restaurant has been featured on Marcus Samuelsson's PBS series No Passport Required, and Alifom appeared as a guest judge on Beat Bobby Flay.
