About The Book Bus Depot
A nonprofit, volunteer-run indie bookstore in Sharonville selling new and used books for all ages, plus literary puzzles, games, candles, teas, and merchandise. The shop carries a curated section of US-exclusive titles from UK publishers such as Persephone and Manderley Press that focus on under-represented female authors, alongside classics, current titles, and used books. Programming includes weekly story time with Miss Karla, author events, and an online book club that ships book mail with tea and a handcrafted bookmark. All profits fund new children's books for local schools and organizations, and orders can be placed for shipping through Square, email, or Bookshop.org.
Melanie Moore taught for 25 years in underprivileged schools before converting her husband's 1962 VW truck into a mobile bookstore, inspired by the book Parnassus on Wheels. The Book Bus popped up around Cincinnati for more than four years, gaining national attention after a March 2021 article in Costco Connection. Moore opened the brick-and-mortar Book Bus Depot in November 2022, and the organization received 501c3 status in May 2023. As of December 2024 it had provided more than $318,000 worth of books to children and agencies.
