The Beauty Bar, presented by LaLa Faces, is Lawanda “Lala” Sanyang’s studio at 2402 S Miami Blvd #105 in Durham. It is appointment only — no walk-ins — and runs Tuesday to Thursday 10am–6pm, Friday 10am–4pm and Saturday 8am–4pm, closed Sunday and Monday. Skin is the larger half of the business. The most-requested service is the Custom Signature Facial with SmartSKN AI skin analysis at $135, and the menu runs through the Luxe Lift anti-aging facial, the Clear Skin O2 acne facial, a Korean Glass Skin facial, the Gentlemen’s ReSet at $145, SWICH facials as a chemical-peel alternative ($225, or $1,199 for six), Nano-LuminFusion brightening treatments ($799 for a six-part series), chemical peel series run October to April, and dermaplaning. There is also a Serenity Skin Oncology Facial at $100 for clients in cancer treatment — Lala holds an Oncology Skin Specialist certification. Body work covers back, hand and foot facials, hydrating, seaweed and firming body wraps, the Luxe Body Renewal package at $239, and a vajacial. Waxing runs from a $15 brow to $149 full legs, with brow tinting at $35 and Brazilians at $59. Makeup is where the name was built. The Natural Glam Makeover is $125 and the Luxe Glam is $150, with Luxe Lids at $80. Bridal is a full menu of its own: $250 on-site for the bride, $200 in studio, $155 per bridesmaid, $175 for an on-location bridal shower and a $165 bridal consultation. She also teaches — a 2-hour 1-on-1 tutorial at $199, the Glam & Glow masterclass at $195, and “Makeup & Mocktails” group sessions from $55 — and lesson clients get written notes and a hyperlinked shopping list within 72 hours. Memberships (VIP Skin, Wax and Relax, VIP Brazilian) are open to existing members, and the studio sells the Lala Faces Cosmetics and Lala Faces Skin lines. Lala Faces began in 2015, when Lawanda Sanyang discovered she had a knack for makeup artistry. It was a hobby before it was a business, and it became a career once she saw how much a face and a bit of confidence could change a person’s day. She pursued formal training at Elevate Salon Institute in Durham and graduated in 2022. Esthetician school and years of client work surfaced a problem she could not unsee: there were no affordable luxury cosmetic or skincare products made with women of every background in mind. Rather than work around it she built the answer — Lala Faces Cosmetics — and the brand grew from there into Lala Faces Skin and the current Beauty Bar location, deliberately extended to serve men as well as women. In October 2024 she did former President Bill Clinton’s makeup, and she uses that as the benchmark rather than the headline: her stated goal is that every client receives a presidential experience. Her work has run in magazines and on runways internationally, and she has been recognised as an outstanding makeup artist nominee in regional press. She later added an Oncology Skin Specialist certification from Circadia University so the studio could safely treat clients undergoing cancer treatment. What clients write about most is the room rather than the résumé — the aromatherapy, the drink offered on arrival, the cleanliness, and being talked into a lip colour they would never have picked. The word they use is her own: Lalatized.
