Silk hair-protection goods made from real mulberry silk rather than polyester satin: adult and children's bonnets, adjustable sleep caps, turbans, scarves, scrunchies, headbands, eye masks, silk pillowcase sets, a silk bralette, and adjustable face masks. A large share of the line is silk-lined headwear, including cashmere and cable-knit hats, beanies with removable pom poms, baseball caps, and a silk-lined hoodie, meant to keep hair smooth and frizz-free in cold weather. Kids' sleep caps use adjustable bands that grow with a child and custom printed fabrics chosen so children will want to wear them. Microfiber towel wraps and a silk care guide round out the offering, and the company also works with wholesale partners.

Founder Dione Laufenberg started the company after recognizing the challenges of caring for her two biracial daughters' hair and needing a way to keep protective styles, braids, and moisture intact between wash days. Her research into the benefits of real silk over satin led to the first product, an adjustable children's sleep cap. Laufenberg holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and licenses in massage therapy, nail technology, and aesthetics, and previously owned a boutique day spa in Madison, Wisconsin for eight years before selling it in 2016. She describes Swurlyco as a Black-owned family business and also writes the Laufty Life Blog on self-care, natural and biracial hair, travel, and parenting.
