About Smoky Mountain Trader
An outfitter in downtown Cleveland stocking gear and apparel for hiking, camping, and river trips in the North Georgia mountains, including hiking footwear, day packs, outdoor clothing, boots, and knives. Customers note a wide footwear selection, including larger sizes for women, plus smaller items like books and novelty socks. Staff help visitors plan outings on the Appalachian Trail, the Chattahoochee River, and area parks such as Unicoi Lake, Brasstown Bald, and Mount Yonah.
The store occupies the building that was once the historic Princess Theatre in downtown Cleveland. Carl Dann first visited in 1998 and saw potential in the property, and the Dann family went on to run the business together for 27 years, growing it into a well-known North Georgia outfitter. In June 2026 the family sold the store and its building to a local group from the Cleveland and Clermont area, who plan to carry it into its 40th year of business.
