About Premier Cakes

Southern old-fashioned cakes and pies, baked from scratch on the spot and preservative free, with most ingredients sourced locally. The cake list runs red velvet, carrot, pineapple buttercream, strawberry puree, hummingbird, lemon layer, lemon blueberry explosion, old fashioned chocolate, coconut, coconut pineapple, and old fashioned lemon and vanilla pound. Beyond cakes there are brownies, Italian and New York cheesecakes, authentic key lime pie, Tortuga-style rum cake and New Orleans bread pudding, plus Italian, French, Latin, Caribbean and Jamaican desserts. Frosting is cream cheese or buttercream, and inscriptions and buttercream balloon bouquets can be added — but they do not make tiered or custom-designed cakes, by choice. Slices are sold daily over the take-out window, selection varying, until they sell out. Whole desserts need 72 hours’ notice, two weeks for most holidays and 30 days for Thanksgiving and Christmas; orders go in by phone or in person with payment in full up front, and no Sunday pickups on pre-orders. Rush orders inside that window carry a minimum $20 fee. Prices exclude 8.25% sales tax. Open Monday to Friday noon–7pm, Saturday noon–6pm and Sunday noon–4pm — unless they sell out sooner. The dine-in area is closed; everything goes through the take-out window.

Premier Cakes is a minority-owned, family-operated bakery on Falls of Neuse Road run by Tracy and Bobby Outlaw — she bakes, he runs everything around it. Tracy taught herself entirely from books and repetition over more than 25 years, perfecting one recipe at a time, and the shop’s whole proposition rests on that: scratch baking, no preservatives, local ingredients, and a refusal to take on tiered or custom-design work that would pull attention off the baking. The bakery has had national recognition from America’s Best Restaurant and placed highly in the 2018 Sweetest Bakery in America contest. It has appeared on the My Carolina Today Show, Shaw University’s WSHA, in Midtown Raleigh News, The Bertie Ledger, The Roanoke-Chowan News Herald and The News & Observer, and ran a long television commercial on Raleigh’s CW22 and WRDC 28 alongside radio advertising on FM103.9. Customers place orders weeks, months, sometimes a year ahead for Thanksgiving, Christmas and recurring birthdays. The tagline says the rest: "For Goodness Sakes, You Gotta Try Those Premier Cakes."
