About Oh My Goodness Wellness Bar

Oh My Goodness Wellness Bar is a wellness boutique at 2724 Henning Drive in Winston-Salem, combining a natural products line with hands-on bodywork services. The bodywork side covers massage therapy, cupping, Reiki, aromatherapy, spiritual coaching and wellness programming, delivered by a licensed massage therapist and shaped around each client's particular needs rather than a fixed menu. The product side began the business and still runs through it: body butters and lotions, natural soaps, cleansers and exfoliators, a scalp, hair and beard care range, and candles and sacred essentials, all made from natural ingredients. Its best-known product is Mommy's Belly Butter, which was endorsed by the actor Keshia Knight Pulliam, who used it throughout her pregnancy. Beyond the shop, OMG publishes Journey Magazine and accepts outside contributors, runs a Wellness Resource Directory pointing people to other practitioners in the area, and keeps a Small Business Spotlight featuring local businesses including Metaspace Counseling, IV Smiles Hydration & Counseling and Mother's Finest Urban Farm. Gift cards, events and a yearly service alignment programme round out what the business offers. Products can be bought in store or ordered online.

Oh My Goodness began at a kitchen table, not a shop counter. Shayla Herndon-Edmunds had spent more than ten years making natural products and remedies for her own family, much of that work aimed at managing her son's eczema, and she kept arriving at the same thought: she could not be the only mother with this problem. She describes what she built in 2015 as "a solution for Black mothers looking for healthy products to soothe and reduce the effects of eczema on their little ones." OMG started as an online boutique and the range widened quickly — body butter, lotion, soap, candles — with one product, Mommy's Belly Butter, endorsed by the actor Keshia Knight Pulliam, who used it through her pregnancy. She was not coming to it cold. Shayla had twenty years behind her in talent management, equity and inclusion work and personal care, including a spell as Director of Talent & Culture at Forward Cities, and she is a certified Usui Reiki Teacher and Healer as well as a professional coach. What she did not plan for was Curtis. After nearly fifteen years in manufacturing, her husband changed careers and qualified as a licensed massage therapist. The stars aligned, as they put it, and in 2018 OMG became a brick-and-mortar wellness bar — products on the shelves, bodywork in the treatment rooms. It went on to win Creative Startups Winston-Salem. The Edmunds call it not just a family business but their lifestyle and their calling.
