About Noir Collective AVL
Noir Collective AVL is a Black-owned boutique, art gallery and bookstore on "The Block" in downtown Asheville. The shop sits in the retail spaces of the YMI Cultural Center and features work by Black entrepreneurs, local and regional artists, designers and craftspeople. Paintings, prints and books share the space with goods from consigning vendors, who earn a passive income through the store. Events include First Fridays and open conversations on Black art.
Noir Collective AVL began as Ajax's mission to serve Black creatives and opened during the pandemic, marking three years in business. It sits on "The Block," once a thriving Black business district in Asheville's East End / Valley Street neighborhood that was damaged by Urban Renewal. The stated mission is to bring Black back to The Block.
