Defined Beauty Hair Salon is an Atlanta-area salon founded and owned by Deja McCoy, who has worked in the hair industry for 18 years and has held her cosmetology license for the past 7 years. McCoy's interest in hairstyling started at age five, when she began giving her Barbie dolls haircuts, which led her mother to buy her a mannequin head to practice on by age seven. She initially pursued biochemistry in college before deciding to follow her true passion, ultimately attending Gwinnett Technical College for cosmetology while also studying business marketing. McCoy worked her way up through the salon industry, holding positions as a receptionist, assistant, junior stylist, commission stylist, and salon manager before launching Defined Beauty as her own salon suite business. Along the way she balanced additional jobs, including bartending, while building her stylist portfolio and technical skills. The salon specializes in personalized haircuts, styling, quality hair extensions -- including Virgin Vietnamese extensions in straight, body wave, and curly textures -- sew-in packages, closures, frontals, and bundles, along with color treatments and haircare products such as Hair Remedy Rx growth products. McCoy describes her goal as helping clients feel confident, empowered, and 'defined by their beauty,' with an emphasis on wellness that extends beyond hair to encourage positive self-care. McCoy has said that finding support was essential to her growth as a business owner, noting, 'It can be hard to excel alone. You need mentors, you need people with giving spirits and guidance to climb to the top.' Her long-term goal is to expand Defined Beauty into a wellness salon and spa franchise, building on the space of comfort and confidence she has created for clients in the Atlanta area.
