About Corpus Christi Black Chamber of Commerce
The Corpus Christi Black Chamber of Commerce develops, promotes and protects Black-owned businesses in the Coastal Bend. The Chamber advocates for minority business issues, connects members to capital and funding opportunities, and provides technical support, procurement opportunities and networking. Programs include membership, member spotlights, scholarships and events such as the Black Business Crawl. It operates as a nonprofit, nonpartisan 501(c)6 organization guided by a strategic plan.
The Chamber was originally chartered in 1943 as the Negro Chamber of Commerce, the first of its kind in the region. It was established to foster economic development within the Black community and the greater Coastal Bend area, and to educate Black and minority business owners about city and county plans. It promoted existing businesses, supported start-ups and encouraged entrepreneurial ventures.
