About ByBlack

ByBlack is a national directory and certification platform built specifically to serve Black-owned businesses, describing its mission as giving Black entrepreneurs 'a better way to unlock new customers, capital and community.' The platform is powered by the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc., a national organization dedicated to advancing Black-owned businesses and Black entrepreneurship across the country. Through ByBlack, businesses can apply for certification confirming they are at least 51% Black-owned and operated, a standard credential used to verify Black ownership for corporate supplier diversity programs, grant applications, and consumer-facing directories. Once certified, businesses gain visibility in ByBlack's searchable national directory, which organizes listings by city, helping consumers who want to intentionally support Black-owned businesses find them in their own communities. Beyond the certification and directory functions, ByBlack works to connect certified businesses with corporate partners and customers, and it provides access to grants and other business development resources aimed at helping Black entrepreneurs grow and scale. The platform effectively functions as connective infrastructure for the Black business ecosystem: certifying ownership status, aggregating that verified information into city-by-city guides, and using that data to broker relationships between Black-owned businesses and larger corporate and philanthropic partners who want to direct resources toward Black entrepreneurship. As a project of the U.S. Black Chambers, ByBlack sits within a broader national network of chamber-affiliated organizations focused specifically on Black business advocacy, making it both a practical certification tool and a visibility platform for Black-owned businesses across the United States.
