About Black Chamber of Commerce Summit County
The Black Chamber of Commerce – Summit County develops, promotes and supports Black-owned businesses in Akron and Summit County. The nonprofit chamber runs workshops, a Small Business Academy, webinars, GrowthWheel planning and coaching. Members gain funding and capital connections, B2B initiatives and a member directory. Networking comes through mixers, expos, media features and spotlight programs like Business Crawl. The chamber also advocates through policy engagement and measures economic impact.
Robert E. DeJournett and Misty E. Beasley co-founded BCCSC, bringing over 30 years of combined experience in minority business development and diversity, equity and inclusion. They launched it to close economic disparities in Akron and Summit County, responding to a 2017 Elevate Greater Akron report documenting systemic exclusion of the region's Black population from economic growth.
