About Ashbourne Farms
A 2,250-acre working Kentucky farm that hosts weddings, corporate gatherings, and sporting events across restored barns and event facilities, including equestrian amenities and a renovated show barn. Additional offerings include farm tours, farm events, Haymarket produce from the farm, and Showbarn Sessions live music performances. The property is listed on the national historic register and includes a restored late-1800s farmhouse, with grounds managed for conservation and preservation.
The farm began with a 1936 wedding gift of Shorthorn cattle from Sally Shallenberger Brown's grandfather, Ashton Cokayne Shallenberger, the fifteenth governor of Nebraska. In 1937 Sally and W.L. Lyons Brown bought their first 150 acres and named it after his Nebraska farm; by 1945 Lyons and his brother were among the country's premier Shorthorn breeders, and the Ashbourne Inn operated as an early farm-to-table restaurant from 1947. Sally placed 850 acres in a land trust in 1996, daughter Ina Brown Bond bought the farm in 1998, and in 2020 Austin and Janie Musselman purchased and expanded it to 2,250 acres, adding event and equestrian facilities with plans to revive the Ashbourne Inn.
