About Anytime Cutz

Anytime Cutz is a barbershop at 2198 Cheshire Bridge Road in Atlanta, open twenty-four hours a day, every day of the year. It bills itself as the city's original round-the-clock shop and has traded that way since 2004. Eight master barbers work the floor — Wood, Britain, Beno, Melvin, Ron, Baye, Trey and Darryl — cutting fades, tapers and shape-ups, and doing straight-razor work, beard sculpting and head shaves. The shop also does scalp massages, facials for men and women, eyebrow arching and children's cuts, and pairs a head shave with a scalp massage as a combination service. A regular haircut is $40, or $50 with the face done. Shape-ups are $25, kids $25, and there are $30 rates for seniors 60 to 65 and for college students with ID. Razor shaves run $50 for the head and $60 for the face. Late hours cost more: haircuts start at $65 after 9pm and $80 after midnight. The shop names NBA players and rappers among its clients, including Dikembe Mutombo, and has been written up in The New York Times and the British magazine Huck.

Anytime Cutz opened in 2004 at 22 Bennett Street, in the Buckhead district better known for its antique dealers and art galleries. The idea was simple and, at the time, unusual for Atlanta: never close. It worked because of when people actually needed a barber. The shop filled up before nights out and after them, drawing musicians, athletes and shift workers at hours nothing else was open. Will Jackson, a barber there who had been cutting hair since he was sixteen, described it to Huck magazine as "a 'before and after' spot — it's kind of like the party before the party." Rap from a boombox in the corner, football on two televisions, a couch, and fade posters on the wall. In September 2016 owner Carol Lamar moved the business to Cheshire Bridge Road, taking a unit with better visibility than the old address. Lamar used the move to add private VIP suites and to recruit cosmetologists as well as barbers, opening the shop up to more women clients.
